Hello gnostic instructors, I am wondering on initiated opinions of Crowley's techniques given for controlling the mind, mainly, ceremonial magick. Vibrating divine names, invoking, banishing, working with the elements, inflaming pentagrams and hexagrams with the imagination.. Are these useful techniques for learning to control the mind, and using the will to have dominion over nature? Is it a path worthy of pursuing, or having some knowledge in, to work towards awakening the consciousness? I ask because I have been doing some rituals (mainly the lesser invoking/banishing ritual of the pentagram) and there are interesting results which insue from it. However, I am wondering if there is anything negative about it or any reason it should be avoided. Also, when he teaches pranayama, he does it in a way which works towards simply regularizing the flow of energy in the body - simply breathing in through one nostril for 10 seconds, holding for 40, breathing out the opposite for 20. Is this type of pranayama negative in any way? Thank you in advance.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. - Matthew 7:15-18

I personally do not have experience regarding the particular practices to which you are referring. As a note, this website exists to help people use and understand the teachings and practices given by Samael Aun Weor. There are thousands of such practices available, and the fruits of those practices are evident in their use.

While I can neither condone nor condemn the techniques of Aleister Crowley, I invite you to reflect on the above quote by Jesus, and consider the fruits of Aleister Crowley's life, and whether you feel the practices he teaches are methods you would like to use in your own life. Remember the person Aleister Crowley became is going to influence, and be influenced by, the methods he used. Ask yourself (and ask your Inner Being in prayer) if in your struggle for holiness and your journey towards communion with the Divine, you wish to be guided by an individual like Aleister Crowley.

Do you know anything about Eliphas Levi and his forms of magic?

Samael Aun Weor, in the Antiquarian Message:

The teachings of Eliphas Levi are mixed with something impure.

Rudolf Steiner asseverates that Eliphas Levi was twice reincarnated as a priest in a Mexican tribe. This tribe, after having culminated in splendors of wisdom and glory, finally came to enter into decay and witchcraft.

So, this soul, who later in time was born with the name of Elipahs Levi, nourished himself in that Mexican epoch with that impure knowledge.

Thus, this is the only way for us to have a logical explanation of the great errors into which the Abbe Alphonse Louis Constant (Eliphas Levi) falls.

We clarify: we do not want to say that Eliphas Levi is a black magician, he is not, he is a Master, but what we affirm is that his books, in spite of having that seal of grandiosity, are mingled with a lot of impure knowledge. This is all.

If you study Eliphas Levi, you have to use discrimination to know what is pure and what is not. Not recommended for beginners.
