What is this concept of "twin flames" I have been hearing about lately?

I have managed to ignore it so far, until I overheard someone mention the other day that the concept originated with Plato.

I am still very strongly inclined to chalk up the "twin flame" concept to new age nonsense, but for the sake of being thorough, I decided to come here and ask if the twin flame concept is grounded in any real teaching.

People are always fascinated with finding soul mates. Yet they have very vague, incongruous, and amorphous ideas about what this means, since most of humanity has no idea what love is, but is indoctrinated by lust.

The true twin souls are Tiphereth and Geburah, the human and divine souls in Kabbalah. These constitute a single flame when united with the Innermost through Resurrection.

I mentally understand the concept you're speaking of, Almustafa, but doesn't Master Samael also speak of each individual having their own twin soul that they've been separated from since the dawn of creation?

This seems similar to the modern concept of "soul mates" and even "twin flames"...
