Dear Instructors, perhaps you can help me out - I am really interested in how you personally got through the first stages/years of being a student of gnosis, how you managed to develop the stamina to work on yourself everyday and to get to the point where you can say that you are really doing everything in your power to serve your being.

I know that the path is different for everyone but it would really help to hear a personal story of an instructor. Personally, i have plunged into a viscous cycle of procrastination and laziness, so hearing an example of how you can actually grow beyond these beginner problems would be a great help. Have you ever experienced situations/ longer periods where you gave in to laziness?

I'd also be really interested in what your day to day practice actually looked like in your first year/ second year/ third year etc. as a student, what type of insight you got into your own psyche, and how that insight came about (visions, dreams, astral experiences?) Did you achieve in your first couple of years as a student to wake up consistently in the astral plane?

One more thing: How long did it take you to be in consistent communication with your being? And what did/does that communication look like?

As I said, I realize that everyone is different, but hearing a personal story would be a great inspiration for me and perhaps for others as well.

Sincerely,
J.W.

As instructors we do not divulge our personal lives too much, because what matters is the efficacy and application of the teaching, not personalities.

Instead of looking outside of yourself, apply the techniques of this tradition in whatever way you can, by working with whatever genuinely inspires you and produces the wisdom you seek, so that you are independent.

Why look to someone else to tell you about the experience of drinking water when you are thirsty? Water is right in front of you. Drink it in meditation and daily discipline, based on what results you personally perceive and experience by applying what you understand and know.

You develop the inspiration to work when you see how these practices help you overcome suffering. When you really want to stop suffering, you feel inspired to practice. Therefore if you want inspiration, reflect on what it means to stop suffering, and comprehend what in you produces your problems.

Such inspiration or inquietudes inspire one to continue working, and likewise, to work harder, because one relies on facts, concrete and definitive. When you see the facts of life, you make better choices and decisions.

I work because I understand how suffering can be comprehended and overcome. When entering this tradition, I realized through a lot of pain that if I do not willingly work on myself, I will devolve.

What drives someone to be disciplined is understanding how meditation works. Without this, one gives up.

I also read the Qur'an and listen to it, because it is a warning to those initiates who begin these studies but are tempted to abandon what is best... a terrible reality faced by all in gnosis.

Thank you for your reply Almustafa.

Thankfully, through the help of the most gracious, most merciful, I have now had the opportunity to perform different practices and prayers consistently, and for the first time since a long time (since I have given in to mistaken, proud intellectualism and abominable laziness) I have felt the joy of a tranquil heart that comes with showing sincerety in this work.

I am still a long way from having dissolved laziness and other related defects - they lurk on every corner, working day and night to disrupt my work and to take away from me the little equinimity and strength that I have received through the cultivation of discipline. Certainly, while I still concern myself with mundane things all too often, falling into fascination, a great battle is raging inside of me, the outcome of which will determine the great question of "to be, or not to be". But with the help of my being, I shall defeat the false king that has ruled my psychological kingdom for too long.

In the name of God, the infinitely Compassionate and Merciful.
Praise be to God, Lord of all the worlds.
The Compassionate, the Merciful. Ruler on the Day of Reckoning.
You alone do we worship, and You alone do we ask for help.
Guide us on the straight path,
the path of those who have received your grace;
not the path of those who have brought down wrath, nor of those who wander astray.

Amen

- Surah Al-Fatiha
