It does seem that there are times when an ego or defect can be comprehended through humor....
or is this a faint observation?

It seems that there are times when some one is able to point out an underlying trait that resides in the person that is bothersome, or that's held so dear and protected and is usually causing stress and pain, and this identification is obvious to the observer.. so they recognize it and call it out as something silly.

It is said that our divine mother is the only one who can annihilate our defects.. not to say that she still isn't here as a part of this process..
though i wonder about this humor application...

maybe it works for some and not everyone..?

personally i have experienced a release of identification by someone ultimately making fun of me, or pointing out something that i took so seriously but really was nothing to be so serious about..

i notice it does take a skill to do this to someone and a skill to receive the poking from someone..

i think what i'm asking is if there is a danger in this?

Thank you,
Many blessings, peace, love and happiness

The reaction to being made fun of occurs in our personality, not our consciousness. What is true of the personality in general applies to deliberately being funny, which is an aspect of personality. http://gnosticteachings.org/courses/self-knowledge/3089-the-perception-of-this-moment.html Personality can be used either by the ego or by the consciousness. When the personality is active it is most often a tool of Pride, Anger, Lust, Envy, Sloth, Greed and Gluttony. Ego loves to believe that it is motivated by "consciousness" and able to "help others". Someone with a highly developed consciouness may effectively use humor to create a conscious shock as you suggest, but there is no inherent power in humor to produce a lasting comprehension. Self observation and meditation are the practices to achieve comprehension. A genuine laugh is similar to getting a thrill physically. There is a momentary exchange of energy between the centers. In and of itself the experience has no profound effect on the consciousness. The desire to repeat the experience can easily become addictive (unconscious) behavior. Spontaneous laughter in general does have a beneficial effect on mind, body and the emotions and is therefore a good thing. This is why there is the popular expression that laughter is the best medicine. . Peace.
