  • Is sexual transmutation always positive or a double edged sword?

Dear Instructors,

Would you say that sexual transmutation (maithuna in particular) always has a positive effect on the individual, or could it also make problems worse if it does not go hand in hand with ethical discipline, spiritual aspirations and elimination of psychological aggregates?

For example if people without spiritual aspirations started abstaining from the orgasm simply for health and regeneration, would that change them for the better or just give more energy to their defects?

Or perhaps to get a clear prinicipal understanding, if all of society suddenly stopped fornicating, would the effect be positive, or would the energy just fuel the degenerative forces and make things worse?

Just to clarify the context of my questions; I ask because I have been reflecting on my vocational aspirations, and one idea that came up was to go into the field of medicine and biochemistry in order to research sexual energy and transmutation (also in relationship with psychology) in the light of modern science.

We need transmutation, sexual magic. But this must go hand in hand with mystical death, always.

Love and death share the same roots. The Divine Mother is love of the soul and death of the ego...

Transmutation without elimination of the ego is not enough. Just because people save their energies doesn't mean they know how to use them consciously. For this, we need meditation on the death of desires.

Three factors are essential:

1) birth of the soul through transmutation,
2) death of desire through comprehension, and
3) sacrifice and service for others.

When one of these factors is missing from any action, our work remains incomplete.

Regarding your vocation, follow your heart. Your Inner Being will guide you to your mission through meditation and dreams!
