Is ham sah primarily visualization and concentration? Ive noticed that the way i do it either doesn't work. I've mainly put the emphasis on trying to feel the energy moving up the spine and have excluded visualization. Is this wrong? Am i not suppose to use my mind to create a feeling of rising energy up the spine?

At this point i can feel a sensation going up my spine but i doubt that has anything to do with how this is suppose to work. So is this practice primarily centered on visualization and concentration? To be more specific, when i inhale and "imagine" the energy going up ida and pingala(while mentally saying ham),i am only visualizing the energy and syncing the image with the mantra and my breath? Am i not suppose to actively try and feel the energy physically? Is it only visualization synced with the mantra and the breath?

I ask because at this point i don't understand what I'm even doing i don't feel any benefits from this practice at all even after doing it for a while. I committed my to master this practice specifically because it was the first practice of transmutation i have ever attempted to do.

To imagine is to perceive. With pranayama, we have to perceive, visualize, imagine the energies rising.

Do not rely on physical sensations. These are temporal and unreliable.

You can learn to sense the creative energies after much practice, yet this does not depend upon the experience of "sensations."

Remember that in order to transmute you need complete relaxation, strong concentration, and serene imagination.

See the energies, relax the body and mind, and do not tense up. With consistent practice you will begin to see the energies more clearly. If you are not consistent with your practice, you will get inconsistent results.

Imagine the nadis, Ida and Pingala, with the energies rising through them up to the brain and afterward to the heart. Pray and ask your Divine Mother to aid you.

Concentrate on Her and implore Her to raise these forces up the spine. Then with concentration and strong will (not physical or mental force / exertion, but a state of equanimity), raise the energies up the nadis while imagining these forces at the same time. This is how you empower your practice.

To claify even more what i mean. So when we "send" the energy are we imagining "guiding" the energy up the nadis to the head? Meaning i am focused on the nadis and i am actively imagining the energy rising through them. In this case i can feel a subtle sensation that follows the channels ida and pingala.

Or instead are we just visualizing(creating a non physical image) the process and are not focused on the nadis themselves?

Or are we doing a combination of the two? Meaning i focus on the nadis ida and pingala(where they would be on the body i understand they are non physical), while simultaneously visualizing(creating an image of the nadis) them. As i inhale guide my focus along the channels, at the same time i am visualizing them?

I am confused because previously i would focus only on the channels(or atleast where they would be if i were to use the physical body as a reference) themselves without visualizing them and i would feel a very subtle sensation that i would bring to the top of my head then to my heart.

I wouldn't be focused on the physical body per se, but instead i would focus on that subtle sensation that i was guiding with my attention and focus. That sensation didn't feel physical at all, but rather it felt like my physical body works with that energy in some way. it kind of feels like how two magnets repell eachother exept very subtle. Everytime i would guide that energy up the spine, to the head i would get a spike of clarity in thought and concentration. Is this the energy you guys speak of?

The issue that i am having is i am not entirely sure if this is what i should be doing. Simply because i hardly, if not ever, visualized the energy. You see i mainly focused on the nadis and hardly visualized. I now try to visualize while focusing on the nadi. which is harder because my attention is split between guiding the energy and visualizing it.

From the lecture practical spiritualty pranyama, the instructor states that we should visualize the energy. I hardly done that. Now i have felt some clarity in thought the way i use to do it. But for the past 3 months of trying to visualize while focusing on the nadis i havn't had much clarity like i used to have. So now i question whether or not i am doing it right in the first place.

So my main questions are:

should i have my focus on the nadis without visualizing them?

Or is this all just a matter of visualizing the nadis And i shouldn't actively focus on the nadi?

Or should i be both visualizing the nadi and focusing on the nadi?

I am soooooo confused. Am i not suppose to focus on the where the channels are in my body and use my mind to guide the energy up the channels? Am i ONLY visualizing, creating a mental image of the process?

How do i raise the energy up the nadi?

I am so lost.

Use your attention, your consciousness. This exercise is not about thinking.

Visualization and imagination are powers of the consciousness. In the same way that you can imagine a banana in your head when someone mentions one, in the same manner we learn to focus, concentrate, and imagine the nadis or energetic channels in our spine. This is done in a purposeful and prolonged way by the consciousness.

Remember this phrase, "Wherever we direct attention, we expend creative energy."

Use your attention, willpower, the power of the consciousness, to raise the energy up the spine. This is not a mental exercise.

When using your will, you combine this with imagination, seeing the energies, in order to transmute.

In this manner you will begin to sense the energies, but not as sensations. It is something else in the consciousness that you must become acquainted with through experimentation.

Be relaxed and patient, since it takes training to learn how to teach the body how to do this! :)

Ok. So pretty much focus on the visualization of the nadis. Don't be distracted. Within the visualization Move the energy of the nadis.

About this practise is it better to do this before our normal meditation practise or after?

You should begin meditation with transmutation, since this energy will calm the mind and prepare you for pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses), dharana (concentration), and dhyana (meditation),
