Everyone has different needs. Read and study the books, lectures, website, etc. Each person should start when they are ready. Everyone will make mistakes. Learn from them, and move ahead.
Some couples begin to practice transmutation immediately upon hearing of the teaching. Some others need to digest the teachings first. What matters most is that you begin when you want to, not when you are told to. You should WANT to do this, not feel that someone is demanding it of you, or that you have to follow someone else's requirements. Everything you do in these studies should be determined by your own will. You should do it because in your heart you feel the need, and you want to know for yourself.
Skill in all the techniques grows gradually in proportion to how we work. Those who work slowly and gradually will gain experience in the same way: slowly, gradually. Those who work intensely, constantly, will learn more, faster.
All of the techniques are interrelated and interdependent. That is, to succeed at any one of them, you need all the others. To start with one and not the others would be like learning to walk on one leg but not use your other limbs. Really, you need to develop them all together, since ultimately, that is how they work best. Remember, as a child, it took many years to walk, talk, eat, dress, run, play, etc. This is no different. Learn like a child does: with an open mind, always inquisitive, always trying, never giving up, and never limited by an inner critic.
Comprehension comes through practice combined with study. Those who only study gain no experience, and remain in darkness, since they build no fire inside. Those who practice but do not study develop fire but do not understand it, and thus fall into many absurd mistakes, especially when interpreting or understanding what they experience. Practice daily, study daily.
Understanding internal guidance through symbols also comes through practice combined with study. Especially study Kabbalah and religious scriptures. Some experiences take many years to understand. Some are easy. For example, I was once being pressured by an instructor to take psychedelic mushrooms. I resisted, but wanted to know what my Innermost wanted me to do. I meditated a lot. Many of the students had agreed to use mushrooms, and even other instructors as well; I was not having experiences on my own, and wanted to, so the pressure was becoming unbearable. Finally, in meditation I saw a very brief but unmistakable image of police chasing criminals. I immediately and completely knew that I was right to reject the mushrooms. So I told the instructor to leave me out of it, that I wanted nothing to do with it, much to his irritation. Later on, those who were involved with that situation regretted it bitterly. I had no regrets. So my answer was symbolic, but clear. In the many years since then, I have learned that interpretation is a delicate art that takes a lifetime to understand.
Even with lunar bodies, you can awaken consciousness a great deal, and be completely awake, here or internally. You can have very profound comprehension. Do not worry about your inner bodies, whether lunar, solar, etc. Focus on changing. The rest will come along the way.
Knowing the will of the Innermost begins in the conscience. Listen to your conscience. Slowly, gradually, it becomes clearer, greater...
