"If you hear anyone going around talking about their sacred name or their mantra, they are an idiot. You should ignore them." - Gnostic Instructor, Christ Mantra Mind Protection

Is this statement not egotistical and divisive? I only ask in order to better comprehend what divisiveness and slander really are. We are supposed to become utmostly sensitive and this statement seems insensitive. I know that no one is perfect and I'm not seeking to criticize the instructor, just wanting to better understand what is ethical and what is not.

Thank You

It seems to me that the statement is no different than this:

In the city of Barranquilla, Colombia, we knew a man who boasted that he was a master. This man always lived surrounded by children, until the police discovered that he was an inverted corrupter of minors, a pedophile. This black magician boasted about being a Free Buddhist, and since he lived always surrounded by children, imbecilic people believed him and said to themselves, “This is indeed a great master,” thus all of them bowed in reverence before this venerable phony master, who was a “sublime” pedophile. At that time, in that city of Barranquilla lived a wretched, old spiritual woman who venerated this sublime pedophile master; this wretched granny claimed that she played chess with our very Jesus Christ; yes, she hobnobbed with God, and directed an association of fornicators entitled “The Universal Fraternal Society.” Likewise, we knew a man who endured twenty-five years practicing mystical autoeroticism; he was a disciple of another impostor named Omar Cherenzi-Lind; yes, he was a mystic that venerated the impostor Omar Cherenzi-Lind, the “troubadour of pleasant vices.” Pathetically, this is what the spirituality of the twentieth century is: a horrible and filthy mixture of mysticisms with fornication, lasciviousness, homosexuality, adultery, swindles, mystical robbery, exploitation, sexual corruption, etc. All of these perverse, filthy, mobster fornicators boast about being “sublime masters,” gurus, avatars, great reformers, etc. None of them wants to be insignificant; all of them believe they are great and powerful. This is why we advise you to practice sexual magic and withdraw forever from those dens of iniquity. Seek your inner “I Am,” because He is the only one who can save you. - The Major Mysteries

Those who go around claiming to be masters are truly "uneducated, ignorant people" which is what the word "idiot" means. Remember:

"Do not accept external masters in the physical plane. Learn how to travel in the Astral Body, and when you are skillful in the Astral, choose an authentic Master of Major Mysteries of the White Brotherhood and consecrate unto him the most absolute devotion and the most profound respect." - Samael Aun Weor, The Zodiacal Course

Regarding the implication of seemingly derogatory terms, The Idiot by Dostoevsky is particularly illuminating work about the Fool of the Tarot. Whether we refer to the protagonist as an idiot, fool, imbecile, moron, etc., all terms point towards the lunar behaviors of mechanical and devolving persons in contrast with the revolutionary solar path.

Dostoevsky sought, through his novel, to warn and admonish those bodhisattvas who make the mistake of falling in love with the whore of the Tarot, as Prince Lyov Myshkin does with Anastasia Filipovna Barashkova.

Prince Lyov Myshkin is a prince, a master, or lion's cub (signified by Lev, the "lion" in Russian) but also a hasnamussen (since he is not only a lion, but a "Mysh," a "mouse" in Russian). Myskin or any fool should really love the chaste virgin: Aglaya Ivanovna: or AGLA: Attah Gibur Leolam Adonai, "You are almighty forever O Lord!" The vowels in Ivanovna also reminds us of I.A.O., Jehovah.

The author was warning other initiates not to be naive and dumb in relation to the swindlers, idiots, fools, or imbeciles of Arcanum 21. This is a very real and dangerous problem. The novel and its thesis is cruel to the ego. It's title implicates and accuses those hasnamussen who do not work on the ego, but who instead become infatuated with titles and lunar behaviors.

The fate of those hasnamussen who do not eliminate mystical pride is to end up like Prince Myshkin, swallowed up by the moon: idiocy, lunar materialism, lunacy and madness. :o

Truly that is a stupid way, as opposed to the path of intelligence and understanding (Binah: The Holy Spirit of scientific chastity), which produces the legitimate happiness and liberation of the soul.

For thirty years I sought God. But when I looked carefully I found that in reality God was the seeker and I the sought. -Bayazid al-Bastami

Thank You both for your responses. I wholeheartedly agree that the type of person the Gnostic Instructor is referring to has an ego that is behaving idiotically in the classical definition of the word.

My point is, given that you, me, and the instructors giving the lectures all have egos that are idiotic, to say that that person is an "idiot" would by definition be hypocritical. Is not this whole work based upon a foundation of Self Remembrance, remembering that the real identity of ourselves and our peers is that of Divinity? That the "person" is not an idiot but their ego is? Why define a person by one of their aggregates? Why label them in such a way? Does not such an emphasis underscore and promote pride/gnostic ego?

Obviously severity and mercy must be balanced, and the Truth should not be compromised. As a teacher one must analyze, comment, and use examples. However it does not seem appropriate to pander to the audience's affinity to judge others by name calling. An instructor or even Samael Aun Weor publicly labeling another person sets a bad example.

"If you want to triumph in life, don’t criticize anyone. Whoever criticizes another person is a weakling. The one who criticizes himself every moment is a giant. Criticism is useless because it hurts the pride of others and provokes the resistance of the victim, who then seeks to justify himself. Criticism provokes an inevitable reaction against its maker. If you want to truly triumph in life, listen to this advice: do not criticize anyone.

The man or woman who knows how to live without criticizing anyone does not provoke resistance nor reactions on the part of his fellowmen, and consequently creates an atmosphere of success and progress. On the other hand, he who criticizes others has many enemies. We have to remember that human beings are full of pride and vanity, and this vanity inherent in them produces a reaction (resentment, hate, etc.) that is directed towards the one who criticizes them. He who wants to correct others should best begin by correcting himself. This gives better results and is less dangerous." - Gnostic Instructor, Lesson One, Introduction to Gnosis
