Hi,

Firstly thank you so much for hosting such a wonderful site full of esoteric wisdom. You all do a wonderful job in bringing these teachings to the public.

My question pertains to the breath and transmutation. I was hoping you can answer for me or lead me to the correct material that will explain what exactly is involved with the breathing cycle during a transmutation exercise. I know that the goal is to project the energy inwards and upwards and that we need to combine imagination and visualization, but could you please clarify this.

For example, upon the in-breath do we visualize the breath/prana entering our nostrils and going down to our gonads or do we visualize that upon the inhalation we should be transferring the energy up from the gonads to the muladhara chakra then up to the brain via the spine activating the other chakras as it goes up? Alternately what should we visualize/imagine during the exhalation?

Thanking you in advance for your answer.

In pranayama, visualization is used in conjunction with our breath to accomplish the transmutation that is actually occuring in the physical, vital, astral/mental as we practice. Visualization insures that the intellect participates with the emotional and instinctive brains, and helps train our motor/instinctive brain how to breathe. Visualization should not be over complicated or we will miss the necessary subtle intelligence of the body. We want to visualize and feel the waters of life blending with prana (our breath), rising up the spine from our sexual organs to our head with the in-breath, mantralizing "ham" internally. On the out-breath we visualize transmutated energy descending into our heart, accompanied by the mantra "sah", either aloud or silently.
