Hello everyone. I would like a friendly opinion from an instructor, if possible.

I recently began teaching myself fine art, because I've had this longing inside me for the few last years, and it was always pushing to come out.

In the process of learning to draw the human body, one needs to copy it from life, basically from live models.
Now this is where the issue is. Of course there is nudity, both male and female nudity. And having the ego alive and well, I believe lust is always there in the back of my mind.
I am afraid this could have an impact on the quality of my mind through negative imagination.
Of course I am trying to look at the bodies like "objects," devoid of lustful values, but if I understood psychology correctly, there are things going on in the subconscious which I am not aware of.

I really don't know how to approach this. Theoretically, without the ego, one should be able to look at a naked body and feel no lust, right?
So it should not be an *inherently negative* action to draw from nude models, it all depends from "right view." So this whole situation could be used as a tool to work on lust.
And yet I don't want this to be a justification through which the ego of lust could express itself. To be clear, I am not doing it for lust, but lust is going to get involved.

I have heard experienced artists say that after a while they aren't bothered anymore by the nudity, and they don't even notice it. But being on a spiritual path, and trying to cultivate chastity, I presume things could be a little different for me...

In your opinion, is this an unnecessary loss of sexual energy and could it be a serious obstacle to the spiritual work?
Or could this obstacle be overcome and viewed as a trial or means to work on lust?
My main concern is that lust is the strongest of the egos, and that it's not going to be that easy to eradicate it of course, and if I do this every day I could be losing energy without even being aware of it.

What do you think? I know you can't tell me what to do, but well... I'd like to hear some experienced opinion. Thank you very much. :)

Take it one day at a time, observe yourself continually, and meditate every single day on your lust. Only in that way will you answer your questions. And, if it gets to be too much, no one is forcing you to take those classes.

Thanks. I'll continue doing this for a period of time and I'm going to observe what effects this has on the psyche.
It's not a purposely lustful thing and it's not that intense, it's just occasional strong impressions which are a bit difficult to digest.
And also I know that the problem is not going away on its own If I just avoid it and stop. That lust is still going to be there, so I might as well use this opportunity to work on it.

Thanks :)
