Hello everyone. Sorry for the long post, I hope it will be helpful for other students who are in the same situation.

I am trying to make some progress. I've been studying the teachings for little more than a year now.
I am obviously struggling trying to establish (actually the correct phrase would be "to start practicing consistently") the division of attention, self-observation, self-remembering, meditation, etc.

Each day, with each lecture I listen to, each meeting with the gnostic instructors and missionaries in my country, each passage of book I read, I discover little clues that gradually deepen my understanding of how to put in practice the psychological techniques, and why I should do so.

I am happy about the constant progress of my understanding, however I feel that the practical side of the teaching can't quite catch up with it, and is lagging behind.

Yes, I do comprehend the reasons why I'm supposed to self-observe, to meditate, etc., and my understanding of karma, suffering and death, (albeit limited) is strongly pushing me to continue on, notwithstanding the fact that my direct personal experience with deep meditative states, samadhi, profound peace, astral travels, etc. is basically non-existent.

I have already reached the point where I now understand enough of how reality works, and how I create my own suffering and what suffering is all about, that I cannot just "look for another school that makes me feel good" or completely turn my back to the teachings and say "this doesn't work."
I feel the urge to do the Work. I know this is the thing I have to do, and I feel like I'm not putting enough effort into it, I feel I could do much, much more.

I frequently have moments in which, out of the comprehension of some fact, I strongly feel "Wow, I must absolutely start observing myself at all times, it is necessary" or "Now it is the time, I must absolutely start meditating seriously and learn how to do it correctly, I profoundly need this." But it's not that easy.

I have reflected many times on this. I want to pinpoint the reasons why I can't just start and "never look back" until I'm done, so to speak.

Every time I review the way I'm working, I find that the "weak link in the chain" is Sexual Transmutation (as far as I can tell). I am talking about Transmutation as a single person. I think this might be "bottle-necking" me. The problem might be that I do not have the necessary energy (although I know that's not the only problem, of course).

I can't quite understand the fundamental principles behind Transmutation. I will make an example: in meditation, you have many different techniques, and we say that all of those techniques work, however if you do not have your concentration established, if you cannot remove yourself from the mind and control your attention consciously, none of them are going to work, and you are just going to waste time.

In the same way, we have different transmutation practices (ham-sah, christic pranayama, runes, etc.), but what are the fundamental principles behind them? I've sometimes heard the spine must be straight (?), the body must be relaxed, and that we need to imagine the energy rising. These indications are very vague, though.

Is there something important we have to understand about transmutation? Are there some basics things we have to do? How do we recognize whether our practice is effective or not?
Also, (and actually most importantly) is there any precious advice you can give to students who are in this situation, struggling to establish the practice? I know that the flaws which are preventing our progress are multiple (ethics, addiction, laziness, etc.), but I ask you this: is our inability to put things in practice due to a lack of Willpower? And if so, can this Willpower be cultivated in any particular way?

Thank you very much and sorry for the long post. I could go on writing and asking things forever (as you can see I have a problem with managing and balancing the use of my intellect :p ).
I realize that most of the answers to the questions come down to "you just have to do it," but well, asking for advice doesn't hurt anyone. Again, thanks.

Transmutation is a subtle science that one learns by doing it.

There are two main elements: saving energy, and then directing it intentionally.

Saving energy is not just restraining the sexual energy, but also through abandoning bad habits in the other centers. In this way, when we stop a bad habit, the energy we would have wasted can be redirected.

Directing energy is done by attention. Wherever we pay attention we expend energy.

So, if you want to awaken, pay attention to being awake from moment to moment.

If you need more willpower, direct your energy into Runes (especially Fa).

If you need more comprehension, direct your energy into meditation.

etc.

The most important thing is to be awakening from moment to moment, to be using your energy for this purpose. Everything you do should support this activity.
