Hello, for the past few years as i have studied esotericism and religion i have come across many characters of whom i have come to appreciate, but one that stands out clearly among the bunch has always been Hermes Trismegistus. from stories of him building the pyramids single handedly to him creating the indestructible Emerald tablet i have ben in awe, another character that always stood out to me (probably due to my christian upbringing) was the old testament prophet Enoch. there are many parallels between these two characters (or 3 depending on how you view Hermes Trismegistus) that i would like to talk about.

1) both are said to have brought writing to mankind.

2) Hermes Trismegistus is represented by the planet mercury because mercury is the closest planet to the sun and Hermes Trismegistus was said to be the closes man to god to ever live, which parallels the story of when Enoch ascended into the heavens and was translated into his fiery angelic form was said to be the closest angel in all of heaven to god so close that the separation between the 2 is almost nonexistent and he is even referred to by some jews as the lesser YHVH.

3) Metatron is said to be the voice of god, and Hermes is a messenger god, both bring the words of god to man.

4) Metatron brought the tarot to moses, and it is believed by some that the legendary lost book of Thoth (i.e. Hermes Trismegistus) is the Tarot itself.

my question is are these characters all one very real being? are they a mythological archetype that has been reused over and over? are they completely different beings with some similarities? to me Thoth, Hermes and Enoch all seem be one character, but as always i am very interested in the input of the teachers here.

thank you for all the help this website does for me and the rest of the world.

this information is very powerful but i do not feel my question was addressed at all, i am well aware that hermes/enoch were christified; my question was where they the same christified being or separate beings. there mythology is almost identical so it seems not unreasonable that they would be the same being but it is also just as probable there were 2 or more beings (Thoth/Hermes/Enoch)
