The most basic way to do this is to follow the basic ethical guidelines which are found in any religion (Ten Commandments, etc.) Obviously, we must not lie, steal, kill, etc. All of this is related to self-willed desire, and thus ego.

The Ten Commandments are related to the Tree of Life. There is a course you can read about them (see below).

In short, when we talk about the Law, we mean our actions, emotions and thoughts are all subject to karma (the law), and thus we cannot escape our own actions. If we break the law, we suffer. If we obey the law and do good, we will prosper.
