There are lots of bad things heaping for religions today like people killing while saying allahuakbar. So i discussed this with my muslim friends that why quran is making people kill eachother or people understand it wrong. Then i read quran bakara section of quran for myself to understand why are people doing this.

We read bible for its symbolic meanings. For an example when it writes god killed first born childs of egypt's for moses to escape, there is no real murder there, but there is a symbolic meanings, so can we read Quran like that?

''And kill them wherever you overtake them and expel them from wherever they have expelled you, and fitnah is worse than killing. And do not fight them at al-Masjid al- Haram until they fight you there. But if they fight you, then kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers.'' AL-BAQARAH 191

My muslim friend says for that surah ''if there is a war yes you can kill people, allah gives that right to you, allah know that you are human and he gives justice to you'' but if you are student of gnostics you already know that you can never kill people, if its writes or not. Killing must be wrong. And if there is a war you can't kill people either. Allah never wanted you to kill people i think.

So can we understand this surah in symbolic? What is the symbolic meaing for that surah? How should i approach quran? thank you for your understandings.
my limited english
and
ignorance
for you to answer.

From the Qur’an [3:7]
He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental of established meaning; they are the foundation of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge (Ma'rifa, Gnosis) say: "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:" and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding (Binah, the Holy Spirit)
Muhammad taught two forms of holy war or mujahadah: striving. Jihad al-asgar (the lesser holy war / striving) and Jihad al-akbar (the greater holy war / striving).

The lesser holy war is our defense against the black magicians in the physical and internal planes. We need to defend ourselves from harm, both physical and internal, when occasion calls.

As Samael Aun Weor explained about the Eightfold Path of the Buddha in The Aquarian Message, part of the path is constant struggles against the black lodge.

However, the lesser holy war is nothing compared to the greater holy war. The greater holy war is striving, comprehension, and annihilation of desire, ego, through creative comprehension, meditation.
''And kill them [the fornicating, unbelieving egos in your mind] wherever you overtake them [moment by moment] and expel them from [your consciousness] wherever they have expelled you [since your mind takes you away from your perseverance, striving and remembrance of God], and fitnah [in the esoteric sense signifying temptation, complacency and identification with desire, the ego] is worse than killing [another person, since by giving in to desire, we kill the potential of God in us]. And do not fight them [the fornicating egos] at al-Masjid al-Haram [the Holy Mosque within the superior worlds, here also a reference to the astral plane] until they fight you there [since even in the internal planes the ego attacks us]. But if they fight you [by tempting you with lust, desire, fornication], then kill them [through creative comprehension, deep meditation and the power of the Cow, Devi Kundalini, al-Baqarah, al-Baqa: the subsistence of the Divine Mother through La Ka-ba, the stone of Yesod]. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers [fornicating egos of the mind].'' Al-Baqarah 191
