Indeed in the creation of the heavens [Haqiqah, the divine archetypes of the truth] and the [spiritual] earth [the solar bodies], and the alternation of [spiritual] night and day [illumination of experience], and the ships [of Yesod] that sail at sea [the Divine Mother Space] with profit to [solar] men, and the water [of transmuted semen] that Allah sends down from the sky —with which He revives the [spirituous] earth after its [psychological, mystical] death, and scatters therein every kind of animal [Nephesh Chaiah that has become a resurrected soul]— and the changing of the winds [the inner instructions given to us by Allahu, Hum, the spirit], and the clouds disposed between the sky and the earth [shown within dreams to signify to the initiates the ignorance of their minds and the need to die in the ego], are surely signs for a people who apply certainty [yaʿqilūn]. Al-Baqarah [2:164]
God Most High has said, “In that are signs for those who read the signs” (15:75). “By those who read the signs” means “for those who can see the inward state of things” or “those who have insight" [and therefore certainty]."
—Al-Risalah: Principles of Sufism by Al-Qushayri
There are three forms of certainty in order to read the signs or experiences of the divine:
'ilm al-yaqin: the knowledge of certainty
'ayn al-yaqin: the eye of certainty
'haqq al-yaqin: the truth of certainty
The knowledge of certainty is like hearing about fire.
The eye of certainty is like seeing fire.
The truth of certainty is like being consumed by fire.
Divinity grants us certainty in accordance with our works.
Spiritual nights come and go. In these times, we must dedicate ourselves to study and meditation, in order to God may grant us light, for he is the giver of night and day, the Wise.
When we suffer spiritual nights, we must return to the knowledge of certainty, the writings of our teachers and prophets, in order not to be misled or enter into despair.
With practice and by the grace of divinity, we begin to awaken within the internal worlds and therefore develop clairvoyance, the eye of certainty.
Supraconsciousness, the light of Allah, is granted unto the disciple when He wills it, and therefore consumes the practitioner through His truth: Haqiqah, therefore signifying the truth of certainty: haqq al-yaqin.
