Kidneys

Good Day to All!

Regarding the kidneys. To my understanding one holds a water aspect, the other a fire (2 different lotus).

When clean and white, are the kidneys the source or root of ida/pingala?

The kidneys (clean) do they fuel the ascent (with the water element now 'heated') giving rise to what we know as kundalini?

The kidneys (related to the Libra) can that transmuted (kidney/sexual energy) simultaneously bring about spiritual comprehension and healing/balance in other and or all chakras?

Thank You!
Warmest Regards.

Firstly, just to clarify, generally speaking in Asian medicine the term "kidney" does not refer to the physical organ of that name in Western medicine, but is instead a more broad term that includes several organs and functions. Furthermore, it is not restricted to the physical body, but is more addressed towards the vital body (ethereal body). Understanding that, we can then address your questions.

The kidneys are primarily considered water and Yin, but as the source of Jing (http://gnosticteachings.org/faqs/sex/1665-what-is-ching-or-jing.html) they do convey much more than water, including "heat" (fire). In general, there are "two kidneys," one yin and one yang.

Are they the "source" of ida and pingala? This is not an easy question to answer; it is a bit like asking, "What is the source of this child?" One can say the mother and father, but it is more complicated than that. Similarly, the kidneys are the origin of jing (sexual energy), and are "polarized", but when we talk about ida and pingala, we generally refer to them as currents beginning in the sexual organs. Of course, the energy in the sexual organs accumulates there from a variety of sources, including the kidneys.

The kidneys are definitely involved with the ascent of the Kundalini. However, to be "clean" (white) one must be chaste, and to be chaste, one must be free of lust. Such a state on this planet is unfortunately an extraordinary, rare thing.

Yes, the health of the kidneys affects all of our spiritual life. Their health is primarily determined by how we use our jing. Furthermore, we can use exercises like the one we do during Libra to bring balance to the kidneys. This in turn affects everything else.
